Joint Parliamentary-Traffic forum to be held on Jan 28

A joint forum between the Council of Representatives and the General Directorate of Traffic will be held soon to discuss traffic related issues, it was announced.

The forum, which will be held on January 28, will be also attended by representatives of the concerned official authorities, universities, municipal councils and experts in the matter of traffic.

MP Jamal Dawood said yesterday the meeting would intensively look into the current traffic-related issues and its impacts on citizens and residents. He also noted that the flow of traffic in the country affects the economy, investment and the future of the Kingdom.

“Several studies, reports and presentations will be reviewed in the forum to assist in the decision-making and legislation development processes. We have recently met with officials from Transportation and Telecommunication and Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministries to stand on the causes of the repeating traffic congestions on the Kingdom’s roads,” Dawood said. He elaborated, “We discussed the launch of the new public transportation bus services and networks. The talks focused on how it could benefit citizens and residents by offering them modern transportation means without delays.”

The MP stated that intensified discussions will be held between MPs and the participating officials, private and civil parties.

He added the recommendations and proposals that would be shared in the forum will be included in the parliamentary work agenda of the ongoing legislative term.

The council announced that the forum comes within the community partnership activities that are organised by Parliament’s General Secretariat and was launched on February 2015.
