Whoever cannot see Iran’s threat is blind: FM

ManamaBahrain’s Foreign Minister, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, yesterday hit out at Iran for spreading sectarianism in the region saying, “whoever sees otherwise is blind.”

The minister wrote on Twitter: “Whoever attends the Cairo meeting and does not see the imminent and threatening danger coming from Iran is “blind or in serious and unjustified denial.”

Iran, Shaikh Khalid said, is spreading sectarianism, dividing the nations and overthrowing countries.

His response follows the comments made by Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir saying that the kingdom is consulting its allies about what leverage to use against Lebanese militant group Hezbollah -- an Iranian ally -- to end its dominance in the Mediterranean nation and intervention in other countries.

Arab Foreign Minister are scheduled to meet in Cairo next Sunday to discuss Iran interventions in Arab countries.

Jubeir earlier said Hezbollah must disarm and become a political party for Lebanon to stabilize.

Shaikh Khalid also lashed out at the disassociation policy proclaimed by Lebanon as “nothing more than media talk”.

“The terrorists who fight abroad and train the terrorists and arm them in our countries are the same one who sit on the government and control the decision and the policies of the Lebanese state,” Shaikh Khalid posted on his Twitter handle.

In another development, Saad al-Hariri, who resigned from his post as Lebanon’s prime minister two weeks ago from Saudi Arabia, said on Friday he has been in Saudi for discussions “on the future of the situation in Lebanon and its relations with the surrounding Arab region”.

Writing on Twitter, Hariri also said information which has been circulating about his stay, his departure and his family are “just rumours”.

Hariri wrote on Twitter that he was “perfectly fine” and would return, “God willing, to dear Lebanon as I promised”.
