Tunis: Tunisia's National Guard has found the dead bodies of 12 migrants after a boat carrying 15 people sank off the country's southeastern coast, according to officials.
The boat sank around 14 nautical miles off Zarzis on Friday nite, allegedly carrying migrants seeking to reach Italy. One person was rescued, but two more remain missing. The search for the missing passengers continues.
According to the National Guard, three victims were discovered initially, followed by nine more, bringing the total death toll to 12.
The event emphasises the ongoing perils of the Central Mediterranean migration route, which is one of the world's deadliest for migrants attempting to reach Europe.
