Venezuela and Aruba Reconnect With First Commercial Flights Since 2019

Caracas: Commercial flights between Venezuela and the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba resumed on Friday, restoring a vital aviation link that had been halted since 2019 due to political tensions and border restrictions. The reopening is a significant step toward normalising travel and trade between the surrounding territories.

The return of services will occur in stages, beginning with a restricted number of commercial flights and gradually increasing frequencies as technical, administrative, and security criteria are met. Private flights are now suspended.

Aruban Prime Minister Mike Eman said that the staged approach is intended to ensure safe and efficient operations as both sides finish the necessary coordination. He also stated that the reopening does not change existing immigration procedures, so Venezuelan visitors must still obtain the necessary visa and complete all entry requirements to enter Aruba.

The restored aviation connection is anticipated to boost tourism, revitalise cross-border commerce, and reconnect family separated by years of delayed travel. Aruba and Venezuela have always had significant economic and cultural relations due to their geographical proximity.
