Manila: A 41 years old Filipina was arrested at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) while attempting to board a flight to Dubai after immigration authorities discovered an active warrant for her arrest in connection with alleged large-scale illegal recruitment and estafa (fraud) cases, according to Philippine police.
The woman was arrested on July 5 after a routine immigration screening at NAIA Terminal 3 when the Bureau of Immigration's system identified an outstanding warrant. Airport police validated the information and worked with the Manila Police District (MPD) Warrant and Subpoena Section, which conducted the arrest at the airport.
According to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP), the suspect is charged with a massive and syndicated illegal recruitment under the country's Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act. The offence is classified as a serious economic crime, with no recommended bail. She is also facing an estafa accusation under the Cybercrime Prevention Act, for which bail has been imposed at 30,000 Philippine pesos.
Following her arrest, the woman was turned over to the Manila Police District for further documentation and legal action. Authorities said the operation reflects ongoing efforts to apprehend wanted persons attempting to flee the country and to reinforce the battle against unlawful recruiting, which continues to target Filipinos seeking overseas jobs.
