Seattle: FIFA President Gianni Infantino has defended the decision to overturn Folarin Balogun's suspension after US President Donald Trump said he had personally appealed to the football chief over the matter.
Balogun had been set to miss the United States' World Cup last-16 match against Belgium after receiving a red card in the team's victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina. However, FIFA suspended the red card on Sunday, making the striker eligible to play.
The decision sparked controversy, with critics questioning FIFA's intervention. Infantino defended the move, insisting the governing body had acted appropriately, after Trump publicly claimed he had urged FIFA to allow Balogun to feature in the knockout match.
