La Guaira, Venezuela : The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 3,342, with more than 16,700 people injured, according to updated official figures released on Sunday.
On Sunday, officials buried more than 150 unidentified victims in individual graves in La Guaira, underscoring the scale of the tragedy as families continue to search for missing relatives.
The powerful earthquakes devastated large parts of La Guaira state, north of the capital Caracas, destroying buildings and leaving thousands of people still unaccounted for. Authorities said rescue and recovery operations are continuing nearly two weeks after the disaster.
The twin earthquakes, among the deadliest disasters in Venezuela's recent history, have overwhelmed emergency services and displaced thousands of residents across the affected region.
