New Delhi: India has approved the purchase of military equipment for $5.46 billion (about ₹52,000 crore) to boost its armed forces. The proposal received in-principle clearance from the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The approved package includes anti-drone and electronic warfare weapons, medium-range surface-to-air missiles, portable anti-tank missiles, jet-based kamikaze drones, naval mines, shipborne drones, and a high-altitude unmanned aircraft platform for intelligence and surveillance.

The government has not provided a timeline for the acquisitions or clarified whether the equipment will be imported or manufactured domestically. The move is part of India's larger attempt to upgrade its military and improve defence readiness.
