Warsaw: Polish authorities have apprehended a primary suspect in the murder of Russian dissident Semyon Skrepetsky, marking a major development in an investigation officials fear may be a state-sponsored political assassination. The suspect, who was detained near Warsaw, reportedly utilized a passport identifying him as a 36-year-old Georgian citizen.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed the arrest, emphasizing that initial evidence suggests the killing was a targeted act of ‘state terrorism’.

Authorities are also investigating the detainee’s potential involvement in other illicit activities in Poland dating back to 2022, signaling a complex criminal history.

While investigators continue to process surveillance data and witness statements to confirm the mastermind behind the assassination, the arrest represents a crucial step in ensuring accountability.

The incident has underscored rising tensions regarding regional security and the safety of political dissidents abroad.
