EU Reaffirms Support for Egypt’s Reform Agenda

The European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Egypt, describing the country as a key and stable partner for Europe amid ongoing regional challenges.

In a statement following talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, highlighted the rapid implementation of the EU-Egypt partnership launched in 2024. As part of the agreement, €1.5 billion is set to be disbursed this month to support Egypt’s economic reform programme.

The EU also noted that approximately €8 billion in investments have already been mobilised under the partnership, reflecting growing economic cooperation between the two sides.

During their discussions, the leaders reviewed diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting stability in the Middle East. They expressed support for the swift implementation of the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, stressing the importance of de-escalation and regional security.

The talks also focused on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, with both sides emphasizing the need for meaningful progress in recovery and reconstruction efforts following the conflict.

The meeting underscored the strategic importance of EU-Egypt relations and the shared commitment to fostering economic development, regional stability, and peace.
