BUCHAREST: A technical report finalized by Romanian state experts has unequivocally confirmed that a drone that crashed into a residential building in Galați was a Russian-origin Geran-2.

President Nicușor Dan announced on Sunday that detailed physical and chemical analyses of the recovered fragments proved Moscow's forces are solely responsible for the incident.

The cross-border strike, which occurred on Thursday night during Russian raids on neighboring Ukraine, represents the first time a drone has hit a residential building outside Ukrainian territory since the 2022 invasion began.

The high-impact collision hospitalized a 14-year-old boy and a 53-year-old woman. While Russia's embassy previously accused Ukraine of staging a provocation and President Vladimir Putin claimed the origin could not yet be determined, investigators matched the device's navigation systems, engine, and Cyrillic inscriptions directly to previously recovered Russian hardware. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Bucharest for establishing clarity against Russian manipulations
