MANILA: A catastrophic multi-story building collapse in the Philippines has left three people dead and 17 others missing. The unfinished construction project in Angeles City completely buckled early Sunday morning, trapping scores of construction workers under heavy concrete slabs and twisted steel beams.
Search and rescue teams have recovered three bodies, including a 65-year-old Malaysian national. Despite the growing devastation, emergency crews are holding onto hope for survivors as specialised thermal imaging scans continue to detect distinct signs of breathing and heartbeats deep underneath the rubble.
A preliminary investigation reveals that illegal construction significantly contributed to the disaster. Official city records state the building was permitted for only nine storeys; however, an unauthorized swimming pool was being built on a tenth floor, causing the structural framework to collapse under extreme weight.
