UAE cautions against 'rushed digital decision-making' in warning over potential cyber attacks

ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates is currently confronting an unprecedented escalation in digital threats, with the nation’s infrastructure targeted by an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 cyberattack attempts every day. 

This surge is primarily driven by state-linked actors who have integrated advanced artificial intelligence (AI) into their offensive operations. Over the past six months, the region has witnessed a staggering 340% increase in AI-driven breaches, signaling a fundamental shift in the complexity of modern cyber warfare.

By leveraging AI for automated reconnaissance and the generation of sophisticated phishing content, hackers are now able to identify and exploit vulnerabilities with a speed and precision that traditional security measures struggle to match.

The threat landscape is further complicated by the use of deepfake technology and large language models, which are being utilized to trigger public panic and spread disinformation. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, phishing incidents often involving highly personalized AI-crafted messages rose by 32%. 

These tactics are designed to exploit human psychology during periods of regional tension, making it increasingly difficult for residents to distinguish between authentic communications and fraudulent attempts to compromise sensitive data.

In response to this evolving ‘perfect storm’ of digital risks, the UAE Cybersecurity Council has activated the National Cyber Security Operations Center (NSOC) to deploy AI-based monitoring and containment systems. However, authorities stress that technology alone is insufficient; the ‘human element’ remains a critical defensive barrier. 

To bolster public resilience, the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Centre (ADCMC) has issued comprehensive safety guidelines, urging citizens to verify all information through official channels and enable multi-factor authentication.

 By combining state-of-the-art technological defenses with rigorous public awareness and strict legal penalties for spreading rumors, the UAE aims to maintain national stability against an increasingly sophisticated digital adversary.
