Tamil Nadu Firecracker Factory Blaze Kills 20 in Southern India

Chennai: At least 20 people were killed and six others injured after a fire broke out at a licensed firecracker factory in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, police said on Sunday.
Local police chief N Shreenatha confirmed the death toll, adding that rescue teams were still working at the site and the cause of the blaze remains unknown.
The fire caused widespread damage at the facility, prompting an ongoing investigation into how the incident occurred.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the tragedy as “deeply distressing” and offered condolences to the families of the victims.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin also expressed sorrow, calling the deaths tragic and assuring support for affected families.
Industrial accidents remain a recurring concern in India, often linked to safety lapses and weak enforcement of regulations, with several similar incidents reported in recent weeks.
