Harvey Weinstein to Face Retrial as Legal Battles Continue

New York:Harvey Weinstein will face a retrial in a New York court over a charge of third-degree rape involving Jessica Mann.
The retrial comes after a judge declared a mistrial last June, when the jury could not reach a decision due to internal conflicts. The case will now be heard again in a Manhattan court.
Weinstein, 74, is already serving a 16-year prison sentence in California for another rape case involving a European actress. He is currently appealing that conviction, with a hearing scheduled for April 23.
His spokesperson said Weinstein is hopeful and expects a fair trial that will prove his innocence.
Weinstein has faced multiple legal cases since allegations against him became public in 2017, which helped spark the MeToo movement.
In the earlier trial, he was found guilty of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley but was cleared of charges involving Kaja Sokola. His original 2020 conviction, which carried a 23-year sentence, was later overturned in 2024 due to issues with how witnesses were presented.
Weinstein has also hired a new legal team, including lawyers Jacob Kaplan and Marc Agnifilo.
Currently held at Rikers Island, Weinstein has claimed he faces threats and harassment in prison, saying he has been attacked and fears for his safety.
