Pedro Sanchez has called for reforms to make the global system more inclusive, representative, and democratic after meeting Xi Jinping in Beijing.
Sanchez said the current world order has helped maintain peace for many years, but now needs to be updated to reflect today’s changing global power balance. He stressed the need for a system that better represents a multipolar world, where multiple countries play key roles.
He also said that global institutions must evolve to better recognise these changes and ensure fair representation for all nations.
Speaking about ongoing tensions, Sanchez accused Israel of violating international law and criticised the war involving Iran, calling it a mistake and “illegal” from the beginning.
He added that at a time when the international order is being questioned, countries should return to basic principles of cooperation, law, and diplomacy.
