Dubai: Dubai Police have played a pivotal role in a major international crackdown that led to the dismantling of one of Scotland’s most violent criminal groups, authorities said.
The operation, conducted in coordination with the UAE Ministry of Interior, targeted the “Lyons Clan” under Operation Armorum, spearheaded by Guardia Civil.
A total of 14 individuals were arrested across multiple countries, including in the UAE, while around 20 more suspects remain under investigation in Spain. Dubai Police confirmed the arrest of a key member upon arrival at a Dubai airport, following the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice.
According to Spanish authorities, the Lyons Clan originated in Glasgow in the 1990s and later expanded into a transnational criminal network with links to organised crime groups across several regions.
The operation brought together global agencies including Europol, the National Crime Agency, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Their coordinated efforts enabled investigators to identify key members, dismantle the network, and seize assets tied to its operations.
Authorities said the group was involved in drug trafficking and money laundering across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, using shell companies and complex financial systems to conceal illicit profits.
Dubai Police emphasised that the operation underscores continued international collaboration to combat organised crime and enhance global security.
