The United States has lifted sanctions on Venezuela’s interim president Delcy Rodríguez, signaling a major policy shift as Washington moves to strengthen relations with the country’s new leadership following the removal of Nicolás Maduro.

The administration of Donald Trump has stepped up engagement with Rodríguez’s interim government, including discussions on allowing the United States to sell Venezuelan oil and issuing sanctions waivers aimed at encouraging American investment.

Maduro was captured by US forces on January 3 after months of escalating tensions between the two countries, triggering significant political changes in Venezuela. He and his wife, Cilia Flores, are currently facing trial in New York on drug trafficking charges.

The Venezuelan government has not yet issued an official response, with the communications ministry—responsible for handling media inquiries—remaining silent on the development.
