CANBERRA : Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has warned citizens that the coming months ‘will not be easy,’ as the escalating conflict in the Middle East continues to drive up global energy costs.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the Prime Minister urged Australians to opt for public transport wherever possible to help mitigate the impact of soaring fuel prices.
The ongoing war in Iran has severely disrupted global oil supplies, leading to a sharp spike in petrol and diesel costs across Australia. Albanese emphasized that while the government is exploring measures to provide relief, the external pressures on the energy market are significant and likely to persist. ‘We are facing a challenging period,’ Albanese stated. "I am asking Australians to consider using public transport as a practical way to manage costs and reduce the overall demand on our fuel reserves."
In addition to the call for public transport use, the Prime Minister noted that the government is working closely with international partners to secure energy supplies and stabilize the domestic market. However, he cautioned that the volatility of the situation in the Gulf remains a primary concern for the nation's economic outlook in the short term.
