Israeli Strikes Kill at Least 12 in Gaza Amid Ongoing Ceasefire Tensions
At least 12 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip since dawn on Sunday, the Gaza Civil Defence Agency reported, while Israeli military officials said the attacks were in response to alleged ceasefire violations.
Despite a US-brokered truce that entered its second phase last month, violence continues in the Palestinian territory, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of breaching the agreement.
The Civil Defence Agency, which operates as a rescue force under Hamas authorities, confirmed that one strike hit a tent sheltering displaced people in northern Gaza, while another targeted a residential area in the south.
In Jabalia, northern Gaza, five people were killed and several injured when an airstrike struck a tent housing displaced families, the agency said. Another five were killed and several others injured in an early morning strike in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza. One additional fatality occurred in Gaza City due to Israeli shelling, while gunfire in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, claimed another life.
Al-Shifa and Nasser hospitals reported receiving at least seven bodies from the attacks.
“Israel doesn’t understand ceasefires or truces,” said Osama Abu Askar, who lost his nephew in the Jabalia strike.
