Catherine O’Hara, Star of Home Alone, Dies at 71

Washington: Catherine O’Hara, the beloved actor known for Schitt’s Creek, Home Alone, and Best in Show, has died at 71 after a brief illness, her manager confirmed. She began her comedy career in the 1970s, co-creating the Canadian sketch show SCTV, and broke into film with Nothing Personal (1980) and Martin Scorsese’s After Hours (1985).

O’Hara starred in Beetlejuice (1988) and its 2024 sequel, where she met her husband, production designer Bo Welch. She also played Macaulay Culkin’s mother in Home Alone and its sequel, and recently appeared at Culkin’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, praising him through tears.
