US warns Iran of “Big Price” Over Executions of Protesters

President Donald Trump has threatened "very strong action" against Iran if the government proceeds with the execution of protesters, amid reports of over 2,400 deaths in a violent crackdown. The case of 26-year-old Erfan Soltani, who was detained and faces imminent execution, has raised alarm among human rights activists, who highlight the swift judicial process against him. Soltani's family has expressed concern about his lack of contact since his arrest, complicating their ability to intervene on his behalf.
Amidst this turmoil, Trump has indicated that he is considering military options and has already enacted 25% tariffs on countries trading with Iran, warning that Iranian authorities will “pay a big price” for their actions. Iran, in turn, has accused the US of attempting to justify military intervention, emphasising that previous tactics have failed. As the situation develops, human rights organisations are striving to track and confirm the rising death toll amidst the chaos.
The protests in Iran, which have spread to 180 cities, were sparked by the collapse of the currency and rising living costs, morphing into demands for political change. The violence from authorities has escalated dramatically, leading to significant casualties and reports of overwhelmed hospitals. Activists continue to seek accountability for the killings, and efforts to document the true scale of the unrest have been hampered by internet blackouts.
