Dhaka: Bangladesh is entering a new era of digital democracy as the Election Commission prepares for the country's first-ever postal ballot during the February 12, 2026, general elections. By pairing a high-tech mobile app with traditional international mail, the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus aims to restore electoral integrity and ensure that the global Bangladeshi diaspora can participate in the nation's "July Charter" reforms. With the registration deadline of January 5 fast approaching, authorities are conducting a massive outreach program to register over a million voters who are currently residing outside their home constituencies.
While voter registration initially opened on November 26, 2025, and saw several extensions, the final deadline for enrollment on the app is strictly set for 11:29 p.m. on January 5, 2026. Officials have urged all eligible citizens, especially the millions of "manpower exporters" stationed in the Middle East, UK, and USA, to complete their registration before this cutoff to ensure their voices are heard in this landmark electoral process.
