Riyadh: The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a Kingdom-wide alert as a severe cold wave is forecast to bring sub-zero temperatures to several regions of Saudi Arabia starting Saturday. Beginning this Saturday, January 3, 2026, and expected to persist until Tuesday, January 6, the weather system will bring a sharp and noticeable drop in temperatures. Affected areas include Al-Jouf, Northern Borders, Tabuk, Hail, Qassim, Riyadh, and the northern sectors of the Eastern Province. Meteorologists predict that minimum temperatures in these regions will plummet to between 2°C and -2°C, potentially leading to frost and sub-zero conditions in northern territories. This cold snap represents the third major winter wave of the 2025-2026 season, following a December characterised by unusual snowfall in Tabuk and intense rainfall across the central plains.
