Kuwait, US, Bahrain, UK Conduct Advanced Air Defence Drill

Kuwait City: The Kuwaiti Air Defence Forces, in collaboration with international partners, has successfully conducted a live-fire operation using Patriot missiles as part of the Sky Shield exercise. This advanced drill aimed to enhance counter-drone capabilities and featured participation from military forces of the United States, Bahrain, and the United Kingdom.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Admiral Brad Cooper praised the achievement, highlighting the importance of multinational cooperation in strengthening regional security. "The exercise demonstrates the effectiveness of joint military readiness and interoperability among partner nations," he said.

“Great work to Kuwaiti Air Defence Forces and our partners on successfully executing a live-fire event with Patriot missiles today during Sky Shield, a high-end, advanced counter-drone exercise. Sky Shield is Kuwaiti-led and involves forces from the US, Bahrain, and the United Kingdom, demonstrating how multinational cooperation enhances regional security,” Admiral Cooper’s stated.

The exercise underscores Kuwait's commitment to modernising its defense capabilities, particularly in air defence. Kuwait has been upgrading its Patriot missile systems, with the US State Department recently approving a $400 million upgrade package.

This upgrade is crucial for addressing contemporary threats, as Kuwait's systems have been in service for over three decades. The investment highlights logistical challenges and potential US military presence in the region, emphasising Kuwait's commitment to modernising its defence amidst evolving regional dynamics.
