Israel Deports 137 Activists From Gaza-Bound Aid Flotilla

Israel announced on Saturday that it has deported 137 activists who were detained while participating in a humanitarian flotilla headed to Gaza.

According to the Israeli Foreign Ministry, those deported include citizens from the United States, Italy, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Jordan, and several other countries. In a post on X, the ministry described the activists as “provocateurs of the Hamas–Sumud flotilla” and confirmed they had been sent to Turkey.

“Israel seeks to expedite the deportation of all provocateurs,” the ministry added.

This follows Friday’s deportation of four Italian activists, the first of hundreds detained from the flotilla.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which set sail last month, included politicians and activists, notably Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg, aiming to deliver aid to Gaza—a region where the United Nations warns famine is spreading.

The Israeli navy began intercepting the flotilla on Wednesday, preventing boats carrying more than 400 people from reaching Palestinian territory, officials said.
