Passenger Attempts to Open Cockpit Door on Air India Express Fligh

An Air India Express flight from Bengaluru to Varanasi experienced tense moments on Monday after a first-time flyer attempted to open the cockpit door mid-air, mistaking it for the lavatory.

According to airline officials, the passenger approached the cockpit and tried to enter by pressing the access code panel, which immediately triggered the cockpit alarm. Following standard aviation security protocols, the captain denied entry while cabin crew quickly intervened to manage the situation.

Fellow passengers were momentarily alarmed, but the crew restrained the individual and calmed the situation without further disruption. Air India Express later confirmed in a statement that safety measures functioned as intended and emphasized that there was no compromise to cockpit security.

Upon landing in Varanasi, the passenger — identified as Mr. Mani — and his travel companions were handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for questioning.

The incident has since reignited discussions on passenger awareness and cabin safety. Aviation experts highlighted that first-time flyers often struggle with aircraft layouts and stressed the need for clearer signage and more comprehensive pre-flight instructions to prevent such incidents in the future.
