The United Nations Human Rights Council announced on Monday that it will convene an urgent debate on Tuesday to address Israel’s recent airstrike in Qatar that targeted senior Hamas leaders.

According to the council, the decision followed formal requests submitted by Pakistan on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states, and by Kuwait on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

This marks the 10th urgent debate called by the council since its establishment in 2006. The session will focus on what the council described as “the recent military aggression carried out by the State of Israel against the State of Qatar on 9 September 2025.”

The Israeli strike, which hit the Qatari capital last week, killed five Hamas members along with a Qatari security officer. The attack has triggered strong international criticism, including from Gulf monarchies that are close allies of the United States, Israel’s primary supporter.
