Gas Tanker Explosion in Mexico City Kills Three, Injures Dozens

A gas tanker truck exploded under a highway overpass in Mexico City on Wednesday, killing three people and injuring 70 others, some of whom suffered severe burns. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos, with some victims lying on the road with their clothing torn and bodies charred.

The truck, carrying over 13,000 gallons (49,500 liters) of gasoline, overturned on a major highway in the southern part of the city, sending towering flames and thick smoke into the air.

Mayor Clara Brugada described the incident as an “emergency,” stating that nearly 30 vehicles were engulfed in flames. She added that 19 of the injured were in serious condition, including the truck driver. Among the victims were a baby and a two-year-old child.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion. Early reports indicate that the tanker may have exploded after tipping over on the highway.
