Torrential rains in Jammu have caused flash floods and widespread waterlogging, forcing the evacuation of over 3,500 residents. Roads, including the area near the fourth Tawi Bridge, were washed away, leaving communities stranded and homes damaged.

Multi-agency rescue teams, led by the district administration with support from the police, NDRF, SDRF, Army, and volunteers, have been relocating families from low-lying areas to temporary shelters. Relief camps are providing food, water, and medical care, with the Youth Hostel Jammu acting as a central hub for assistance.

In Jammu North, around 160 residents from Nai Basti and Lower Muthi have been moved to Kailash Resorts, where community kitchens (langars) have been set up to ensure uninterrupted food supplies.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rakesh Minhas said the situation is being closely monitored and assured residents that restoring power, water supply, and road connectivity is a top priority. He praised the coordinated efforts of all agencies working to protect lives amid the flooding crisis.

The Tawi River, which swelled after days of heavy rainfall, has receded slightly, revealing the damage to structures like the historic Madhopur bridge. Residents survey the remains of their homes and abandoned vehicles along the riverbanks, a stark reminder of the floods’ impact.

Authorities continue to work tirelessly to provide relief and support to affected families as the region recovers from the sudden deluge.
