The United States has doubled its reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, raising it to $50 million. US officials accuse him of being “one of the largest narco-traffickers in the world.”

President Donald Trump, a long-time critic of Maduro, has refused to recognise his re-election in January, which was marred by allegations of vote-rigging and rejected by much of the international community.

US Attorney General Pam Bondi said the reward was increased from $25 million to $50 million, accusing Maduro of being directly involved in drug smuggling operations.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil dismissed the move as “pathetic” and “political propaganda,” accusing Bondi of trying to distract from controversy in the US over the Jeffrey Epstein case.

We previously charged Maduro and other top Venezuelan officials with crimes, including narco-terrorism, corruption, and drug trafficking. US prosecutors allege he worked with Colombia’s FARC rebel group to flood the US with cocaine.

In a video posted on X, Bondi also accused Maduro of working with the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua – labelled a terrorist group by the Trump administration – and Mexico’s powerful Sinaloa Cartel.
