Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the construction of 40 air-conditioned rest areas strategically located across the emirate for delivery riders. These rest areas, designed to ensure comfort and safety, are part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and improve the overall quality of life for the growing number of delivery riders in Dubai.
The delivery sector has seen significant expansion in recent years, with Dubai now home to 2,535 delivery service companies and a fleet of 46,600 delivery motorcycles. The new air-conditioned facilities provide riders with a safe, comfortable space to wait for their next orders, which not only helps reduce fatigue but also contributes to lowering the risk of accidents caused by tired or stressed riders.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, highlighted the importance of these rest areas in ensuring the safety and comfort of riders. “This initiative reinforces Dubai’s commitment to road safety, and these rest areas aim to create a more sustainable environment for the delivery sector,” Al Tayer said.
Each rest area is equipped with air-conditioning and seating for up to 10 riders, depending on the location, and features designated motorcycle parking spaces for convenience. The locations were chosen after analyzing operational data and demand for delivery services, ensuring that the rest areas are placed in key spots such as Hessa Street, Dubai Marina, Business Bay, Jumeirah, and more.
RTA’s efforts also extend to ensuring high-quality standards within the delivery sector. The authority launched the Delivery Service Excellence Award in 2022 to recognize companies and riders who maintain high standards of safety, compliance, and customer service. The second edition of the award is set for this year, with a new category introduced for the Best Partner in the sector.
Dubai’s emphasis on providing a better environment for delivery riders reflects its broader goal of becoming a global leader in road safety and sustainability. The city’s commitment to creating a safer and more efficient delivery infrastructure is a step forward in meeting the growing demands of the sector.
