The Palestinian group Hamas has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump's proposal to "take over" the Gaza Strip following the resettlement of Palestinians elsewhere, calling his remarks “irresponsible” and “aggressive.” In a statement released on Wednesday, Hamas expressed that Trump's comments were harmful to the Palestinian cause and detrimental to regional stability.

The group reiterated its firm stance against any foreign occupation of Palestinian land, stating, “We will not allow any state in the world to occupy our land or impose guardianship on our great Palestinian people.” Hamas called on both the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene urgently and respond with a firm position to safeguard the national rights of the Palestinian people.

Izzat Al-Rishq, a senior member of Hamas’ political bureau, dismissed Trump’s remarks as a reflection of "confusion and profound ignorance" regarding the Palestinian cause and the broader region. “Gaza is not a common territory for any party to decide its fate; it is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian land,” Al-Rishq said. He emphasized that any resolution must prioritize ending the occupation and recognizing the legitimate rights of Palestinians, rather than focusing on domination or real estate-like transactions.

Al-Rishq also accused the US of showing unwavering bias in favor of the Israeli occupation, asserting that Trump's statements only reinforced America’s ongoing aggression against Palestinians and their rights.

The controversy began late on Tuesday when Trump suggested that the US would "take over" Gaza as part of a plan to relocate Palestinians and transform the area into "the Riviera of the Middle East."
