A fire broke out on Sunday at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport in the General Security’s deportation office, located on the western side of the departure area.

According to reports, the blaze was deliberately started by a passenger who set a sofa on fire in protest against his deportation. The individual had been referred to the deportation office upon arrival after violating regulations, including smoking onboard his flight.

Emergency responders and airport security swiftly intervened, bringing the fire under control before it could spread further. No injuries were reported, and operations at the airport remained unaffected.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while the passenger responsible has been taken into custody for further legal action.
