Apple is preparing a bold, three-year strategy to transform its iPhone lineup, the tech giant’s flagship product that makes up nearly half of its revenue. The plan, set to begin in September 2025, comes as Apple faces growing competition from Samsung, Google, and Chinese foldable phone makers.
According to Bloomberg and supply chain sources, Apple will introduce a series of major design changes over the next three years. Highlights include:
2025: A new ultra-slim iPhone Air
2026: Apple’s first foldable iPhone
2027: A curved-glass iPhone 20 to mark the 20th anniversary of the iPhone
These designs aim to refresh the iPhone’s look and bring back the visual appeal that some critics say has faded since the iPhone 12’s squared-off design.
The upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, set to launch at Apple’s September 9th event, will feature the iPhone Air as a thinner, lighter replacement for the iPhone 16 Plus. Inspired by the MacBook Air, the new model focuses on a sleek design, potentially as thin as 5.5mm. Trade-offs include a single rear camera, reduced battery life, and eSIM-only connectivity.
The iPhone Air will also debut Apple’s in-house C1 modem chip, reducing the company’s reliance on Qualcomm. Other iPhone 17 models, including the Pro and Pro Max, will see smaller upgrades like enhanced cameras and a new orange color option, laying the foundation for the bigger innovations planned over the next two years.
Apple fans can expect to see the first glimpse of this ambitious plan at the Apple Event on September 9th, 2025.
