Bahrain Steps Up Cricket Ambitions with Shahid Afridi Visit

Bahrain has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the growth of cricket as His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa met with former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi to discuss the sport’s future in the Kingdom.
The meeting focused squarely on strengthening cricket’s development pathway in Bahrain, enhancing grassroots programmes, and expanding the Kingdom’s presence in regional and international competitions.
HH Shaikh Nasser highlighted the importance of bringing global expertise to Bahrain to elevate standards, refine talent identification systems, and create competitive structures that nurture young cricketers. He stressed that investing in cricket aligns with Bahrain’s broader vision of building a diversified and sustainable sports sector.
Afridi, widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s most influential cricket figures, was briefed on Bahrain’s cricket programmes, player development strategies, and long-term plans aimed at building strong and sustainable teams capable of competing internationally.
The visit also included a tour of the Victorious Cricket Team facilities, where Afridi reviewed training systems, preparation programmes, and talent development stages designed to raise performance levels across age groups.
Praising the Kingdom’s efforts, Afridi expressed his readiness to share his international experience to support Bahrain’s cricket ambitions, particularly in youth development and high-performance training.
Officials noted that such high-level engagement reflects Bahrain’s growing focus on positioning cricket as a key sport within its expanding athletic landscape.
