Playoffs Loom as Muharraq Meet Al Ittihad
Bahrain’s Muharraq Club faces Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad tonight at 8 PM in Jeddah, in the sixth and final round of the 2025-26 FIBA WASL Gulf League.
The Red Wolves enter the match with 7 points from two wins and three losses, including a narrow 84-83 defeat to UAE’s Shabab Al Ahli in their most recent outing. That loss, decided by a game-winning shot from Deshawndre Washington in the final seconds, saw Muharraq drop to third place in Group A, though they have already secured a spot in the Qualification to the Semi-Finals, where they will face Kuwait SC.
Al Ittihad leads the group with 8 points, holding a 4-1 record, and will look to finish the group stage on a high note. For Peter Schomers' side, the result is largely symbolic, but the team aims to maintain competitive form ahead of the playoffs, despite key injuries to Timmy Bond and Roche, which could impact their rotation.
Earlier in the tournament, Peter Schomers' side showed resilience, keeping games close against top sides, including a dramatic battle with Shabab Al Ahli, where they briefly led late in the fourth quarter. The team’s core, led by Bond, Nick West, and Kerwin Roach Jr., has shown plenty of promise that will be vital in the postseason.
Current standings ahead of tonight’s final round are: Al Ittihad on 9 points, Shabab Al Ahli 8, Muharraq 7, and Kazma SC 6. While the final group match may be “a formality” for Muharraq, it also offers an opportunity to build momentum and fine-tune their game for the upcoming playoff clash.
