Bahrain advanced to the semi-finals of the 17th Arab Junior Volleyball Championship in Amman with a straight-sets win over hosts Jordan.
The under-18 men’s national team swept their round-of-eight clash 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-11) at the Sports Palace Hall in Al Hussein Youth City to extend their unbeaten run, having already defeated Kuwait, Iraq and Palestine in the group stage.
They now face Lebanon in tonight’s semi-final at 7pm. Egypt meet Libya in the other last-four tie after both came through their quarter-finals in style — Egypt beating Palestine 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-19) and Libya overcoming Iraq 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-18). Lebanon edged Kuwait 3-2 in a thriller, clinching the decider 21-19.
The medal matches will be played on Monday, following tomorrow’s classification fixtures.
This year’s championship is organised by the Arab Volleyball Association, chaired by Bahrain Volleyball Association president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, alongside the Jordan Volleyball Federation. Bahrain’s delegation in Amman is led by BVA vice-president Mohammed Al Thawadi.
