Naser fifth and Balew struggles in Lausanne Diamond League

Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser finished fifth in the women’s 400m at Athletissima Lausanne, while teammate Birhanu Balew placed 13th in the men’s 5,000m on a difficult night for the kingdom’s athletes.
Naser clocked 51.08 seconds, narrowly behind American Alexis Holmes in fourth. Norway’s Henriette Jaeger took victory in 50.09, with Lieke Klaver of the Netherlands (50.17) and American Isabell Whittaker (50.63) completing the podium.
Balew ran 13:17.75 in a fast 5,000m featuring 21 starters and two pacemakers. Belgium’s Isaac Kimeli won in 13:07.67 ahead of US runner Grant Fisher (13:08.51) and Mexico’s Eduardo Herrera (13:09.50).
The Lausanne meeting was the penultimate stop before next week’s Diamond League Final in Zurich.
