China secured their first victory in the Men’s Ice Hockey Group A at the 9th Asian Winter Games, delivering a resounding 8-0 win over Thailand on Friday.
China Bounces Back with Relentless Offense
After setbacks against the Republic of Korea and Kazakhstan, China came out with an aggressive game plan, racing to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Zhang Pengfei, Zhang Zesen, and Wang Jing extended the gap to 6-0 before the final period, where Wang netted his second goal, and Yan Juncheng capped off a hat-trick, sealing the commanding shutout victory.
Group Standings Take Shape
Elsewhere in Group A, the Republic of Korea defeated Japan 5-2, while Kazakhstan dominated Chinese Taipei 17-0 to maintain their unbeaten run.
With three rounds completed, Kazakhstan tops the group, followed by the Republic of Korea, Japan, and China. Thailand and Chinese Taipei remain winless at the bottom of the standings.
