West Virginia launches Civil Engineering Degree in Bahrain

Manama West Virginia University launched its inaugural Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering programme with a Student Orientation Programme yesterday in Bahrain. 

The degree programme, the first to be offered by West Virginia University in the Middle East, started accepting applicants for the academic year 2017/2018. 

Fields of study during the Civil Engineering programme include environmental and water resources engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and transportation engineering.  

Students enrolled in the programme are registered as West Virginia University students and are eligible to earn their Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

The programme is co-educational and all students admitted to the programme will enrol in a preparatory foundation semester in English and Mathematics. In addition, career support services are available to assist with job placement upon graduation.

Royal University for Women is offering the programme for which it has constructed new facilities and classrooms with state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. 

At the student orientation event, Dr. David Steward, Associate Vice-President for Global Strategies and International Affairs said that the launch of the degree is an integral part of West Virginia University’s plan to provide world-class educational services to all students. The students were also addressed by Dr. David Wyrick, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Statler College of Engineering & Mineral resources.
