The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning yesterday continued its efforts to remove rainwater, especially in main streets, hospitals, health centres, mosques, official institutions, and within cities, villages and neighbourhoods.

It also attended to complaints from residents in various governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain following heavy floodings due to intermittent rain showers throughout the day yesterday and overnight downpours on Saturday.

The ministry’s rain emergency team sent 70 tanks in addition to rainwater suction pumps in the four governorates to the sites where rainwater caused flooding.

It said that as of last night, all vital roads are passable, and that rainwater drainage systems are under control and are working efficiently.

Works Minister, Eng. Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf, Eng. Ahmed Al Khayyat, Undersecretary for Works Affairs, and Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs, visited several sites in various governorates to check on the efforts of the emergency teams.

The team works round the clock to clear the main roads and streets, in cooperation with the various concerned authorities.

Eng. Khalaf praised the cooperation of the governorates, the General Administration of Civil Defense and the General Administration of Traffic.

The Ministry’s Municipal Affairs has allocated a hotline for each municipality to receive reports round the clock.
