Bottom trawls: Coast guard seizes fishing boat, 240 kg shrimp

Bahraini coast guard patrols confiscated a fishing vessel yesterday for employing banned bottom trawl nets in the waters of Bahrain. Coast guard officials also captured 240 kilograms of shrimp caught using the method, which destroys far more ocean habitat than any other fishing practice.
Bahrain has banned the usage of bottom trawls as per Ministerial Resolution No. (205) of 2018. Coast Guard Commander said officials seized the vessel from the coast of Nabih Saleh. Public prosecution is mulling further actions.
