Illicit affair: Appeal moved

The High Criminal Appeals Court yesterday started hearing the appeal of a Filipino woman convicted of delivering a boy following an illicit affair.
The 28-year-old accused reportedly had sexual intercourse with an Asian national inside her sponsor’s house, where she was working as a domestic servant.
She became pregnant, but it wasn’t discovered until she delivered a baby, helped by a friend.
She was admitted to hospital as her medical condition was deteriorating.
Her 26-year-old boyfriend was later nabbed after she revealed his identity to prosecutors. The pair was earlier sentenced to three months each in prison.
Court files indicate both the accused gave different accounts on how they met.
The Filipino woman said she acquainted with him after accidentally calling him on phone, while her boyfriend said it was a friend who introduced them to each other. The woman appealed to judges to deport her to her country as soon as possible, according to court files.
The Asian national, however, did not appear at the court for the hearing.
The High Criminal Appeals Court will resume the trial on October 15.
