Death sentence for imam’s murderer

The 35-year-old Bangladeshi expat who was found guilty of murdering a Bahraini imam Abduljaleel Hamood was handed down death sentence while his co-defendant was given one-year imprisonment by the High Criminal Court. The convict had earlier admitted to murdering his victim before the High Criminal Court, but his co-defendant did not plead guilty in the case. According to prosecution, the convict killed the imam by hitting him with an iron bar.

“Later with the help of the second convict, he cut the body into pieces, carried it in plastic bags and dumped it near the scrapyard in Askar.” The convict was a muezzin (prayer caller) at the same mosque in Muharraq where the imam was working. The court revealed in its verdict that the defendant had previous experience in slaughtering livestock for sacrifice, which would have made him cut the imam’s body into pieces.
