Fake bomb: Five on trial
Manama
The trial of five suspected of placing a fake bomb in Tubli has started. However, only one of the accused appeared before the High Criminal Court in the opening session, where he pleaded not guilty.
It’s not yet clear if the other four are at large or were in detention. They weren’t brought to the courtroom.
They are implicated in the disturbance that broke out on December 5 last year, in which rioters burnt tyres and dispersed concrete blocks on a vital street to disrupt traffic flow in the area.
Before leaving the scene, the saboteurs poured oil on the street and implanted a strange object that looked like an explosive. It later turned out to be a fake bomb.
The five have been put on trial after police investigation uncovered their involvement in the incident. Apart from planting a fake bomb in a public place, the accused are charged with rioting, arson and participating in an illegal gathering. Their next court hearing is scheduled on June 11.
