Speed limits raised

Manama  : The speed limit on one of the Kingdom’s main highways was raised yesterday.

The maximum permitted  speed on the Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa Highway, in the direction of Mina Salman, is now 120kmh. Earlier, it was 100kmh. This also makes it the second road in the Kingdom to have this speed limit after the King Hamad Highway.

New signs showing the increased limits were fixed yesterday between King Fahad Causeway and the flyover near the US Embassy.

However, the General Directorate of Traffic or Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry is yet to make any comments on this.

The move in line with the instructions of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to reconsider the speed limits on the Kingdom’s main roads and highways  also follows a public outcry over the increasing traffic fines.

During the Cabinet session held on May 29, Interior Minister Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa presented a memorandum on the adjustment of speed limits on 29 roads and highways in different parts of the Kingdom.

As per this plan, more changes are expected soon.
