House robbery: Maid’s jail term upheld
Manama: An Ethiopian maid convicted of robbery has had her sentence upheld. The defendant was earlier handed down six months in prison for stealing cash and valuables from her Bahraini sponsor.
She is said to have exploited the fact that her sponsor was travelling with all the family members. She reportedly stole BD560 as well as BlackBerry mobile phone and a gold ring.
She was arrested, after the family found the items missing when they returned after their trip. “On the day of the robbery, my sponsor wasn’t in Bahrain and I found the door of his room open. I went inside the room and stole money and cellphone,” the woman told prosecutors.
