The survivors of the fatal road accident that took place last week near the Alba roundabout are in a miserable condition.
Speaking to the DT News survivor Rashid Latif said they were travelling at a safe speed when all of a sudden, a speeding vehicle hit their vehicle from behind. He said the one who destroyed their lives should be compelled to pay them compensation.
“The vehicle that hit us from behind was speeding at about 120 km per hour,” said Rashid, “It was totally their fault.”
He recalled the deadly incident; “I was sitting at the window seat when the accident occurred. My wrist got stuck in the door and a leg was awkwardly twisted. I felt extremely helpless,” he said.
“At first I thought at least Akram was safe and called him to come open the door. It was only later when I was being taken to the hospital that I saw Akram lying unconscious on the ground. And I kept hoping he was not dead,” he added.
Rashid, who is fathers two daughters and an infant son, said he is worried as he doesn’t know how long it would take before he could get back to his work.
“Who will take care of my family in Pakistan and how will I pay my room rent and food expenses all these days?” he expressed his woes.
Another survivor, Imtiaz, told the DT News that he has head injuries, both on front and back, and his right pelvis was fractured.
He still remembers his vehicle being hit from behind before all went blank. “It was 10 pm when I got back my conscious. When I enquired, I was told I was in the BDF Hospital,” he said.
He said he was not informed about Akram’s death immediately because of his unstable condition. Two days later, twenty minutes before the funeral prayers, Imtiaz was told that Aakram was dead.
“The news was a shock and my head started spinning,” he recalled in grief.
The accident occurred on May 31 near Alba Roundabout and the driver of a vehicle, Akram, died at the spot. His body was later flown back to Pakistan with the help of Pakistan Embassy. Community Welfare Counsillor Maqsood Qadir Shah ensured that the embassy would bear the expenses of the education of the five daughters of Akram.
