Minister highlights 25-year journey of Bahrain’s women’s advancement

Wael Al Mubarak says Supreme Council for Women’s Silver Jubilee reflects women’s growing role in national development

The 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Council for Women marks a significant milestone in Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to advance the role of Bahraini women and strengthen their contributions to national development, Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak said.

In a statement marking the council’s Silver Jubilee, the minister said Bahraini women had made steady progress across various fields over the past 25 years, supported by the care of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the approach established under his leadership to strengthen women’s position and contributions to national development.

He also highlighted the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which he said had helped create greater opportunities for qualified Bahraini women to participate and contribute across different sectors.

Al Mubarak praised the efforts of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, for her continued support for the advancement of Bahraini women.

He also commended the council’s role in developing initiatives and programmes supporting women, safeguarding their achievements and enhancing their contribution to Bahrain’s development.

The minister described the Silver Jubilee as an important national occasion to reflect on 25 years of work and achievements during Bahrain’s comprehensive development process, saying the King’s leadership had established women as key partners in national development.

He noted that the anniversary coincides with the declaration of this year as the “Year of Isa the Great”, commemorating Sheikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, founder of the modern Bahraini state.

Al Mubarak said the occasion reflects Bahrain’s longstanding approach to building and developing state institutions while advancing institutional work, development and prosperity.

He also highlighted the achievements of Bahraini women in various fields, including the municipal and agricultural sectors.

Bahrain is marking 100 years of women’s participation in municipal elections this year, he noted, adding that Bahraini women have demonstrated their competence and capabilities in positions of responsibility and contributed to the development of services and projects benefiting citizens and residents.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture, he said, will continue supporting female talent and strengthening women’s participation across its areas of work.
